Trauma & PTSD Nervous System Support in Fort Wayne

Trauma-PTSDYou have done so much of the work. Maybe you have talked it through, named what happened, and built real understanding around it. And still, your body has not caught up — you feel on edge, braced, unsafe in your own skin, exhausted by a nervous system that will not stand down.

That is not a failure of effort. It is simply that trauma does not only live in the mind. It lives in the body. At Advanced Chiropractic Life Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, we care for the part of trauma that talk alone often cannot reach: the nervous system that is still stuck in survival mode.

How We See This in Our Practice

When you have lived through trauma — a single overwhelming event, or years of chronic stress — your nervous system learns to protect you by staying on high alert. Long after the danger has passed, the body can stay locked in fight-or-flight, as if the threat were still here. The body keeps score.

That is why trauma can show up in such physical ways:

  • Feeling constantly on guard, braced, or unable to relax
  • A persistent sense of being unsafe, even when nothing is wrong
  • Trouble sleeping, racing thoughts, or being easily startled
  • Anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional reactions that feel outsized
  • Patterns like people-pleasing, self-abandonment, or difficulty setting boundaries
  • Exhaustion, tension, or physical symptoms that do not have a clear cause

Many of the people we care for are already doing courageous work — in therapy, in counseling, in their own inner healing. Our care is not a replacement for that work. It works alongside it, supporting the body so the rest of your healing has somewhere settled to land.

How Our Care Helps

At ACLC, we take a nervous system-first approach to trauma. We do not ask you to revisit or retell what happened. Instead, we work gently with the body to help it come out of survival mode and rebuild a felt sense of calm.

Here is what that looks like:

  • We start by measuring, not guessing. Our gentle, non-invasive nervous system scans show us where stress is being held and how well your body is adapting — real data, not opinion.
  • We deliver gentle, neurologically focused care that works with the vagus nerve and other key pathways to help your nervous system shift out of fight-or-flight.
  • We track your progress over time, rescanning so the change shows up on paper as your body learns to settle.

As regulation returns, the people we care for often describe it as finally feeling at home in their own bodies — more grounded, more clear, more like themselves, more able to rest, and more able to set boundaries and trust themselves. Healing from trauma is rarely linear, and everyone’s path looks different. What we offer is steady support for the body, so the whole of your healing has a stronger foundation to build on.

We also care for children carrying the effects of early stress or hard beginnings. If you are here on behalf of a kiddo, you may find our Emotional Regulation for Kids page speaks more directly to what you are seeing at home.

“In November of 2024 I started care with Dr. Lindsay and it has been life changing for me! Over the past couple years I’ve gone through some big life changes and some major trauma in my personal life. It was enough to make one want to just give up on life. But I’m so grateful to have found Dr. Lindsay! She is caring, compassionate, and her gentle touch has brought so much healing to my nervous system!! Today I’m no longer living in a constant survival mode of fear, feeling unsafe, social anxiety, people pleasing and self abandonment. I have more safety within myself, clarity and a greater sense of identity than ever. I trust my intuition and am able to set boundaries in my relationships. Thank you Dr. Lindsay for the work that you do — it has made a world of difference for me! And I’m excited for the ongoing transformation to come as I continue nervous system care!”

“I feel like I’m getting my life back. I have done a lot of healing for my childhood trauma over the years, and everything I did helped. But after an unusually long span of high stress, I went into a freeze state I couldn’t get myself out of. I had been following Dr. Scherina on Instagram and loved her work, and when I saw she had a directory of certified practitioners, I looked for someone in Fort Wayne. That is how I found Dr. Lindsay Mack, and I’m so glad I did. Even at 3 weeks I felt hopeful for the first time in a long time — brain fog was lifting, and I was starting to go for walks again. After 2 months, I started responding to triggers instead of reacting in a way I would regret. I’m so grateful for Dr. Scherina’s directory, and so grateful I found Dr. Lindsay. I feel like I’m getting my life back, and I believe it will be permanent this time.”
